How good does the black colormist work? Does it look like black? I am going to be doing a cake that looks like a drum and the sides will be black. I originally thought fondant (not sure if they make black fondant) but now I am wondering if I put a cardboard circle over the top and sprayed around the sides if that would work. What do you all think? Would you spray on buttercream or fondant?
Thanks
I have not had a good experience with those sprays. It looked wet with drips on it.
Please rethink this one. The spray nozzles drip, and when you try to blot it up, you end up with a bare spot. When you spray over the bare spot, the color doubles around it. It's not worth the work.
I know SatinIce makes black fondant. You can also try ChocoPan dark, with black paste color added to it.

I wouldn't use it....besides what the others have already said, it never seems to thoroughly dry....always has a tacky feel to it (on fondant, anyway)...
start with chocolate and add food coloring....or for a really deep and shiny color, use black gel color with a little vodka and paint it on..but for a large area, you will have visible brush strokes
