You would need a new, compatible inkjet printer like the Canon iP3000 ($100 or less) or the Canon iP1500 ($50 or less), frosting sheets ($28 ) and edible ink cartridges to fit your printer ($28 - $50).

A great place to buy your printer would be on eBay. Just by new, from a reputable seller. The other supplies can be purchase at www.kopykake.com or www.sugarcraft.com

Creating edible images is just like printing any other images only you're using edible inks and papers.

Gosh, I always thought it was so cost prohibitive to make edible images. That doesn't seem to be too bad. Might have to think about now! Have to find somewhere close to the computer to hook up another printer tho! icon_cool.gif

Can you use any printer, as long as you use the edible paper and ink?
Thanks

No. The companies making the edible ink cartridges are only making them to fit certain Canon, Epson and HP printers. You would have to use one that was compatible with those edible ink cartridges (same as OEM ones only filled with edible ink). The Canon iP1500 and iP3000 are the best choices right now. Newer Canon models won't work yet. The cartridges have been redesigned and are no longer compatible with the edible ink cartridges being made. Kopykake is working on them though and they should be out soon. The HP compatible edible ink cartridges aren't sold within the US yet and Epsons are a poor choice for edible imaging. I would either wait for the newest Canon model cartridges to come out or purchase one of the other Canon models listed.

Here's a link to the maker of the HP compatible edible ink cartridges...

You should still start with a new printer or one that had never been used with standard inks.

Unless those HP printers have been lying around new and unused in their boxes, they shouldn't be used for edible images. Regular ink is very much non-edible, and it's pretty much impossible to eliminate all residues.

Companies selling primarily in this country only sell cartridges made for the Canons and Epsons (just one type of Epson, if I recall). If there are foreign companies making cartridges for the HP, you might be able to Google up something, but the compatability information is not going to be readily found in English, at least.

There are several compatible Epson printers. The info for the HP compatible cartridges can be found here.

They sell in bulk to retailers but I don't know of any US retailers who are carrying them.

Thanks for the information Lisa

Crimsicle-as for the unused HP's yes they are. My BF orders a lot of computers and they seem to always come with printers. However we only need a couple... so Printers and keyboards tend to pile up =) Although I just checked and he has sent them all on their way to a better home icon_cry.gif So guess I will have to wait for the next one to come.
