I have always really liked that quilted look on cakes. (The squares that people sometimes attach "pearls" to.) I was wondering how exactly that is done. I think I could figure it out, but I think it would be much easier if someone would just tell me. icon_biggrin.gif
Can you only do the quilting on fondant? Do you do it before or after putting it on the cake?

Dumb questions?

You can do it on a crusting buttercream as well as fondant. You can purchase an impression mat online or at a cake store that makes it much easier. I have seen on some posts where it has been doing by hand, I tried and got too frustrated.

..not a dumb question at all! One way to do it is to use what is called a Diamond Impression mat. It is just a piece of hard plastic with a raised pattern on it that you press into BC or fondant and then you can attach "pearls" in the cross sections

Where would I find a diamond impression mat? I have never heard of those! That sounds much easier.
