Hello Everyone! I am new to this board; however, like most I am so impressed with what I have learned in my short time here.

I am an avid baker ... primarily skilled in breads, brownies and drop cookies. I sell these nicely boxed at our local farmer's markets, to some businesses, etc... Now, I would like to enter into the world of decorated cookies and was wondering what you would suggest as first steps...taking the Wilton's course? Other ideas??

Thanks and I look forward to all your input.

Yes, taking the Wilton Courses is a great start. They will teach you the basics.

I support the wilton classes too, while they don't teach you everything there is to know it gave me a great starting point and confidence to keep trying new things

Hi, Tess! Welcome!

I do not know where you live, but there are plenty of cookie classes to be found at community colleges or community centers.

You can also get the book Creative Cookies by Toba Garrett for lots of great information.

Wilton classes are great to get started and they are so much cheaper than other classes. They are a great starting point.

When I became ill and had to stop working, and due to the stress and depression that followed, my doctor told me to get a hobby. I took up sugarcraft - cake decorating, chocolatiering, sugar work - and have been here ever since.

Hi! Welcome to Cake Central!!

There's a great tutorial on decorated cookies by one of our members, Antonia74, and another great one about making your own cookie cutters by Cake_Princess. They are in the articles section on this site.

You can also find a whole lot of helpful information if you browse through the posts and threads in the cookie forum.

welcome to the world of cookies!

This article is by KHalstead. I don't think Cake_princess ever submitted an article on how to make your own cutters but she did make a sort-of "mini-tutorial" and posted it as thread:

Both are very helpful.

Tess, than can be no better place to learn about decorating cookies than this website! I used to do a little cookie decorating, but after surfing this site, I've become addicted. I've started to come up with some unique designs, too, just by being inspired by these wonderful artists. If you're looking for a book to help give you ideas, I love the booklets by Autumn Carpenter. Not expensive, lots of pictures, and lots of hints and tips.
