I keep seeing these amazing fondant diploma's displayed on Grad cakes.
They are so thin and the writings on them are soo nice. The writing for the words Diploma and such look almost like typing!
Has anyone ever done one of these??
How do you make the writing so nice on the fondant?
Where do you get the style of writing?
How to transfer writing on there?
Any kind of tips and techniques would be helpful! I have 3 Grad cakes that I would like to do with this diploma! Help! ![]()
I use the edible markers. They have a fine point and the handwriting comes out great on fondant.
I know some people use the wafer paper. If using wafer paper, since it's so thin you could print out your message and then trace it with an edible marker onto your wafer paper.
Jacqui
Well, if you are using the full size paper then I would start by writing on it first. Then you can take a large dowel and roll 2 of the oposite (sp?) sides to give them a curl and your done. You can also cut it to the size you want as well.
Jacqui
On sugarcrafts it says to curl the edges, using a dowel hold it over some steam.
Jacqui
You're so welcome!
I'm doing a grad cake for my daughter in June so I may have to try the wafer paper too! I can't wait to see your cake!
Jacqui
Walmart sells edible images for $5 a sheet. I charge my customers $10 extra for them. I would love to have an edible printer though! You can get the edible markers here on CC. I like the Americolor ones better than the Wilton.
Jacqui
Really?? I have never seen that at Walmart! Is it at the Super Centers or something?? I guess I will have to look more closely from now on!
I am actually trying to find a cheaper version to do than the edible images. And I really don't like the way it prints on those! I saw that the wafer papers might be kind of faint also!? I was planning on doing the edible markers on the wafer paper, steam them to how i want them to roll up, then attach them to a thin sheet of fondant, cover with piping gel to make it all clear and shiny.
Do you think this will work?? I have never done it before but, experimenting is one of my best qualities with cake decorating! I think...I can do that but, differently! anyway...let me know if you've tried what I'm saying!

The edible images have to be ordered at the bakery at Walmart. Take a photo in and they print it onto the paper while you shop. It takes just a few minutes for them to do.
Let me know how the piping gel works on the wafer paper. I think it might wrinkle it? I'm not sure how you would get a shiny finish on it.
Jacqui
Some TCBY stores will do edible images, also. The one near me does them for $5 also.

Oh! The wal-mart that has a bakery is sooo far away from me! I don't want to go there. But, there are other bakeries here that might sell and do what they do! I just don't know if I want to do them cause they are more money that I don't want to add to my list of things on the grad cake.
ISN'T THERE AN EASIER WAY!!!! ![]()
I was really thinking that the wafer paper would work like that!?? Cause of the article on the butterflies! Maybe I should just draw on fondant to be safe!
Thanks again!
(I don't have TCBY playingwithsugar
)
Don't give up on the wafer paper. I'm sure it will work.
Jacqui
Go to www.sugarcraft.com and in the search type graduation.
Jacqui
Oh, GREAT! I've order stuff from them and had no problem. Anyway, it's just an idea page from their sight on graduation cakes and has the instructions on the wafer paper.
Jacqui
Maybe it was something else! Cause I did go to what you said and it had all these grad ideas! I don't know??
I did see a diploma where they just used a wafer paper! I didn't think I could use just that cause it looked so thin! Maybe I will stick to just that now! Thanks for all your help ladyonzlake!!! ![]()
