I voluntered to do my husbands friends wifes baby shower cake (wow that was way long) Well anyway everyone talks so highly of my cakes and I had shown Marion (the woman Im doing the shower cake for) the cake that I wanted to make (I got it out of a wilton book) she was really excited. Well I pace myself to every day do something for the cake like bake one day, the next make the frosting and filling, then frost and decorate. So I should be done today. All week he's been asking me when I was going to finish. Well things would go a lot faster if my husband wasnt calling be 50 times today asking me when I was going to get home and finish the cake! For crying out loud I had to just now stop my typing because he wanted to know how much longer until I was done! Grrrrrrrrr icon_mad.gif . I think he is more critical of my cakes than I am! alright, Ive got to get back to my cake. hopefully I wont end up hitting him with my rolling pin icon_lol.gif

I would ask him when he started decorating cakes? Then just tell him that you will finish it in plenty of time and if he asks you about it one more time you won't ever do another cake for anyone he knows ever again. That ought to get him to back off. If it doesn't then just threaten with not making dinner or doing his laundry. Get him where it hurts. icon_lol.gif

My husband is my "structural engineer." He does the cake boards, the supports, the creative figuring out when I can't do it. Plus he calms me and tells me its looks great. And for some reason he likes to do the rice-crispy work. icon_razz.gif

And yep, lots of times he cleans after me when I'm done and keeps the daughter entertained while I'm decorating. (for the most part)

Maybe you can find something to include him in your cake making. Mine also cuts boards to size, washes dishes, cleans after me, makes the Marshmallow fondant, and he even made a board for me to carry several cakes in my back seat. I think including them in our craft/business, helps.

Mine is mostly babysitter and errands-runner...he's also my delivery boy when possible.... if I get a cake that needs delivering and it doesn't need any kind of setup, I "pay" him the delivery fee to do it for me. haha.

Maybe your husband is just excited that his wife is making a cool cake for one of his friends.

My DH does all of the clean up, too! When I work at Michaels and bring everything home in a little bag, he goes straight to the sink and starts washing. He sits in the kithen and talks to me while I bake and decorate (I think he's hoping for "extra" stuff!) and jumps up whenever I drop something in the sink. Love having a personal dishwasher around! icon_biggrin.gif

I think maybe I need to send my husband for some lessons. He gets tired of me calling him in to see if something looks right.

Wish I had a kitchen fairy to clean up for me.

My husband is also really good about helping to cut the boards and cover them, doing th dishes, and boxing the cakes. He is also my primary photographer. My 14yo son makes my icing for me, so really, all I do is bake the cake and decorate!

So did you finish the cake yet? Just kidding!

My husband helps out with his opinion, helping me take my pictures and sometimes laminating a picture if I need him to but thats about it. He pretty much knows to go away when I am doing anything with cakes or cookies unless he wants a big blob of frosting in his face (thats because I can be messy and frustrated in the excitement of it all). Sometimes he doesn't understand the "little bt every day process". He knows it takes alot of work but seems o think I should be able to bake, decorate, and clean all in the same day so I can understand your frustration.

To retain youir insanity, Its called "Take the phone off the hook!! I remember the time when my hubby brought walkie talkies just to keep up with each other when we go to stores. Well he got twalkie talkie happy to the point the women in the store laughed about it. Soo I cut it off untill i felt it was time to let him know where i was.
It was nerve wrecking1 Gotta to love him, though icon_rolleyes.gif

I hate you all. Just joking. My husband is a complete ass! He never wants anything out of place. He is so picky. Never marry a man that had a mother that did everything for him. It would be so much easier to be a lesbian, too bad I only like men.

Well, my husband is a truck driver and he works a lot. So usually he isn't in the way. the only thing I use him for if he is home is to carry the cakes to the car so I can deliver them. Otherwise, he just watches tv and leaves me alone. I don't even ask him if they look good because without looking he will tell me that the cake looks good. Every now and then he will walk by and tell me something - good or bad. That is when I take his opinion seriously. Other than that- nothing!!!! I like it that way. Out of my way.

Oh wow I wish I had a husband that did all of those things.. I don't think I would even care if he bugged me about when I was going to be done. Mine doesn't even care. I made him a USC (he's a big fan.. his uncle was an All-American there) birthday cake and all he said was that it was "nice". icon_sad.gif It sucked. lol

OK, I want some of your husbands. Mine will cover cake boards and cut dowels for me. An occasional errand to the store when I just can't leave, but that's it. He refuses to even put his own dirty dishes in the dishwasher when it's empty. He won't wash a thing unless he gets really disgusted one day and decides to do something. I am thankful that he will do my boards cause that's so tedious, but I even mention to him about learning to make icing or something and he bolts! I have had him bake a last minute cake for me when I had to be at work, but it's so rare. I need help, I'm going insane!!!!

My husband doesn't even like the fact that I do cakes! He doesn't understand how much I love it. If any part of the house is messy or if I forget to do something, he blames it on cakes.

this is so funny! i'm lucky too to have a husband who watches the kids and does most of the clean up. but sometimes he'll try to give me "ideas" and suggestions. but most of the time they're dumb. and i always try to bounce ideas off of him and then get irritated when he can't come up with helpful ideas. i don't know how he puts up with me. but i'll never tell him that!
