Hey all!!

I will be making a baptism cake in a couple of weekends. I want to make a cross out of fondant/gumpaste that will stand up on the top of the cake. I have seen some great ones in the gallery!! What I can't quite figure out is how to get it to stand up so nice and straight... do you add a spike of some sort to the bottom and that part goes in the cake?? Or do you prop it up in the back of it with a wedge of somehow?? or some other obvious way that I am not seeing? haha

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I made one yesterday for a cake today - this morning I attached 2 toothpicks to the back with some royal icing - it sounds like a good idea in theory - I will let you know if it works......

I would think just putting a sharpen dowell through the entire cross (down the middle, inside the cake..) would work. no? Although I guess you have to be careful of cracking...

In my photos there's a cake with a standing stroller made of fondant. I made the stroller, let it dry hard, than I attached lollipop sticks behing with royal icing. It worked great and it was easy. hope it helped!!!

HI All!

I use a sharpened dowel and attach with royal or hot glue, if they are not going to eat it. If you want to be safe, stick with royal. Most of my clients pull those things off and toss in teh garbage, so hot glue is fine with them. You can make one with a candy mold out of chocolate and put a popsicle stick in the middle when you pour the chocolate.

Just wanted to say thanks!! I ended up using 2 lollipop sticks glued with royal to the back... worked perfectly and went far enough into the cake that it was really secure.

Wow! That turned out beautifully! That's what I do too. Lollipop sticks and royal icing..works every time! thumbs_up.gif
