Hello i was just wondering if cake tasting are done by any one here and how they are ussually handled......

I have a bride that would like for me to do this as shes not sure what she wants.......

seems like a alot of work........

I understand the need sometimes...I heard of setting dates for tastings so that several people taste at a time so theres no waste but for instance at this moment she s the only one that needs one.... icon_eek.gif

I've heard some really great ideas on this. One was to serve cupcakes (sometimes filled) with icings on the side. I bet you could even do the mini cupcakes if you wanted. Freeze any leftover cake for next time.

I remember when DH & I got married 7 yrs ago that when we went to the bakery to taste test we actually had to buy what ones we were considering. They were 6 inch cakes with just icing, no decorations, and we chose which ones we were interested in. Unfortunately I don't remember how much we were charged but we did buy several.

What about giving the bride a choice of which ones you do, let her pick and charging a small fee which would compensate for some of your time?
Just an idea.

For my first tasting, I only offered four flavors of cake and one buttercream icing recipe. So I made mini loaf cakes in each flavor with buttercream icing. The tasting was for the bride and groom only so I made them two of each and two more each for them to taste later. I actually gave them until Monday to decide on a flavor.

Now that I have more cake flavors on my list and more buttercream icings too, I may have to change the way I do this.

I would suggest letting your customer decide on 3 or 4 flavors out of the many flavors that you offer. Next time I may make 4 or 5 in cakes just so they can see my decorating skills.

If you don't want to decorate for the tasting make sure you have a album of your previous decorated cakes.

I don't do enough wedding cakes to make this pay but most of my brides have had my cake and I do not usually do fancy fillings
