I've heard so many good things about creme bouquet(buttercream), has anyone tried it with a chocolate cake?

I've always been afraid to add it to chocolate. I'd be interested in that combination also.

I just used a creme bouquet buttercream on a chocolate cake a couple of days ago. I was told that it tasted like it came from a professional baker, so I'll take that as a compliment. icon_smile.gif The creme bouquet has a little citrus kick to it, so if you like a citrus/chocolate combo you should go for it. icon_smile.gif

I have two ultimate alltime favorite flavorings, Butavan and Cream Bouquet. Everyone that has eaten one of my cakes with either of these flavorings loves them and wants to know what I use. However, I have not used either of these flavorings with chocolate so can not comment there. What you can do is get your cake mix ready and add a few drops to a cupcake size amount of batter. Bake the cupcake flavored with the cream bouquet and see if you like it. The cake batter will be fine sitting in the bowl long enough for a cupcake to bake. I can't imagine it being anything but good.........I just have never tried it in chocolate and not sure why. Hmmmmm. icon_confused.gif

It has somewhat of a lemony smell, but not a lemony taste. its hard to describe, but its really good. I personally wouldn't use it in chocolate, but i suppose i would try it as an experiment. you never can tell, it may blend very nicely.
please let us know if you try this and what you thought of the outcome.

Nanaraquel......I am glad you posted this! Now I will try it for sure. I love chocolate with citrus undertones so it should be excellent. Thanks for posting your experience!

Butavan is a butter and vanilla combination extract:

I use it all the time in my buttercream and cakes except for chocolate. I will try the cupcake test now though. I also use Princess Cake flavor sometimes also. This has the same taste as Creme' Bouquet but with a slight nut undertone. The best pricing for both of these is trough National Flavors. I bought the Creme bouquet for $6.65 quart and Princess Cake for $4.85. They have gallon sizes also. icon_smile.gif

Suzie757, thanks for posting about National Flavors, I'll have to give them a try! The place I ordered through before was priced decently, but their shipping was ridiculous!
Teekakes, I'm glad I could help, hope you like it! icon_smile.gif

I did try a little creme bouquet in my bc this weekend. I put in on a chocolate cake. I had lots of compliments. One lady around my mothers age, said "it was the best icing she had ever eaten, and she had eaten lots of cake!" So I guess it's an allright combination. Thanks for all of your imput! icon_smile.gif

I've recently started using cremem bouquet in my white cakes and some of my bc. I think it's like a buttery, slightly citrus taste. I love it. It's my new secret ingredient. Something that 'll make people chew a little slower, whilst they try and put their finger on "just what IS this taste?" And I'm not telling. I made a 10" tripple layer cake with creme bouquet in both the cake and bc and shared it with 3 families and 3 individuals to get their opinions. Everyone loved it! The macho man down the road even left a message on my answering machine saying the cake was great and the icing was "to die for, absolutely delicious!" That cracked me up but he definitely liked it.
