What is the difference? Last night during my Wilton Class II my instructor
totally dimissed my icing because I colored it with AmeriColor. She said
AmeriColor cannot be used for royal icing it makes it too thin. I could see no difference in the icing except that my icing was a richer color than the others. Can I use Americolor?

I use ONLY Americolor now......and believe me I resisted LOL I have every color in the rainbow of wilton's colors. I havent had any trouble coloring royal, bc, or anything with the americolor......like you said, I get a much deeper , richer color with less trouble with the americolor!!! I won't use the wilton anymore except for craft projects with my kids LOL The americolor is a slightly runnier gel than wilton's , it's in a squeeze bottle (which I love)...no more fumbling with toothpicks!!! You can use it straight out of the bottle to paint with on fondant....it's awesome!!! I won't ever buy another bottle of wilton coloring!! By the way, the wilton instructors are getting paid by WILTON....so I'm sure they have some kind of loyalty to those products!

I started using Americolor a few months ago when I needed a red red for my icing and like KHalstead I'm not changing back. It's so much easier to do, the color really blends in your fondant much easier and yes, saying goodbye to the toothpicks is a great thing. I haven't used it with royal icing but I don't think there should be any problem. Did you notice your icing having a different consistency from other people's icing? And yes, remember that they do work for Wilton so they have to make you think that Wilton is the best. My instructor kept saying how if you add some Wilton flavoring to Wilton fondant it tastes fine... Yuck!!!

Happy decorating!
