I think it would work per say but I would definately think you will compromise the flavor of your pound cake.

I'm a butter girl and I know that butter lends alot to the flavor of baked goods. Use the butter thumbs_up.gif

I agree with JavaJunkieChrissy - the cake will probably turn out okay, but definitely won't taste the same. I'm a butter girl too. No margarine in my house...LOL!

It may be in what you are used to, so I'd say take the advice of the butter users on here! I was in my late teens before I knew that the yellow sticks of fat we used weren't "butter", even tho' that's what we called it. Since that's what I grew up with, the taste of real butter taste 'bleck' to me .... all in what I grew up with and what my taste buds are used to. Any recipe that calls for butter, I use margarine.

But again I emphasize .... listen to the ones who actually use real butter.

Thanks guys. Trust me....I'm ALL ABOUT THE BUTTER!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

But I have someon asking if I can make the pound cake for them but use margarine to lower calories. I told her I'd never done that but I'd check on it.

I guess I"ll go ahead and see how it works out.

i used to make a pond cake recipe and it actually said 3 sticks of butter (or margerine) or 1 butter, 1 marg 1/2 cup crisco

it was pretty flexible ( a basic a7 up pound cake)

lower calories.. does she know how many calories is in a piece of cake regardless? LOL

Oh I know!! icon_lol.gif And I thought that. I was like, "If you're gonna eat cake....EAT CAKE!"

But I can't argue w/ someone willing to give me their money.

I think that as far as calorie count goes, pound cake is going to be the worst! A light chiffon-type cake or even angel food is going to be the best bet. But if she wants pound....

Also I just looked it up online and margarine and butter BOTH have 34 calories per teaspoon. If you are using a light something then that will affect your recipe. Go with the tasty butter and she can skip the trans fats.
