I have a couple questions about coloring candy melts: I am going to make some mongrams using candy melts and the client wants the letters to be wine colored (deep burgandy).

What advice xcan you give about coloring candy melts? Is there a specific candy melt that's preferred? How would I get a dark burgandy? Can you even buy a burgandy color for candy melts? Lastly, can regular Wilton colors be used to color candy melts?

Thanks!

Can't help you with the coloring question, but in the answer using the regular wilton coloring, the shot answer is no. Regular coloring are water based and will cause your chocolate to seize. Someone said you could add a little vegatable oil with the coloring to help it not seize, but I have never tried it, and can not tell you if it works.

Thanks for the info on not using the regular wilton colors. Does anyone know what I need to do to get the candy melts burgandy?

you could use your regular coloring if you add the flo coat (or probably some crisco) but I do prefer candy colors. I do not know if you could get that color. I like chefmasters candy color.

I looked in the whimsical bake house book and it said to 1/4 cup or white candy melts add 5 drops red+2 drops purple+2pink (candy color) for burgundy.
