I am trying to get a little fondant bucket to look like chrome. It is not working! What am I doing wrong? I tried thinning it with extract and painting it on, but it just got clumpy and didn't seem to do right at all! Any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated!

what are you putting on the side of your "bucket" to color it?

Your luster dust/extract mixture should be thinned to the consistency of milk. Also. are you sure it's luster dust? I ask because Wilton has some stuff out that can be mistaken for luster dust and it only clumps up when you try to use it like the dusts.

rezzycakes,

You were so right! It was the shimmer dusts, not luster dust, that I bought, and genius that I am, I bought two boxes!!! Ugh! I guess I have to order the real thing. Thanks for your help!!!

Also some extracts such as almond make it clumpy.

What is the difference between Shimmer Dust and Luster Dust? Aren't they basically the same thing, used the same way, just different brands?

Thanks,
Christine

Wilton shimmer dust is different from luster dust. Luster is very fine and dissolves well.
