Hi. I'm making a 12, 10, 7 stacked Wizard of Oz cake tonight. It will be iced in white buttercream.

I want to use the brick impression mat on some yellow fondant to add a yellow brick road winding up the front of the 3 tiers from the bottom to the top.

How should I do this?

If I press the brick design onto the fondant first and then try to lift it and lay it vertically on the cake, I'm thinking the brick pattern is going to get all stretched out and distorted.

But if I apply the fondant first, how will I be able to imprint only the yellow brick road part without making bricks on my white buttercream?

Can anyone figure out the best way to make this work? Thanks, and did I mention I have to do this tonight? icon_eek.gif

Get a tracing wheel from the sewing supply store, but not the sprocketed one like we use for quilting - a solid one (I got mine at Joann Fabrics). Use some kind of measure as a guide - a piece of cardboard, etc, cut to the width you want, and taped on the ends to prevent any paper from going into the fondant.

And this is one that you want to do after you apply the fondant to to the board - if you try to smooth it down after embossing, you will wipe out much of the pattern.
