So I signed up for Hobby Lobby and Joanne's emails to get coupons every week. Those of you who do this, know what I am talking about. But for those who don't -they send you a coupon (that you can use) by email every Sunday. Sometimes Hobby Lobby will have a coupon for 40-50% off all Wilton products (no limit). Boy is that coupon like hitting the cake decorating lotto! That was last week's coupon. Anyway, I usually buy one thing a week and I never have paid full price for ANY of my cake decorating stuff.
Do you all do this too?
This week Joanne's had a 50% off one item coupon and Ive already picked up a new cooling rack. I have two more coupons that they gave me at the store last time I went - so I'm going back today to pick up a new pan. I'll probably go tomorrow too...
What's the catch here? I thought you don't get things in life for (almost) free?! Anyway, for those of you who don't know....GO SIGN UP! GET YOUR DISCOUNTS! Since they don't want us to pay full price, I'm not gonna!! thumbs_up.gif

While the coupons are a great thing, there is also a con to them.

How many times have you gone in and bought something just becuse you had a coupon? Something you really didn't need? Something you bought 6 months ago because it looked neat but have not used it since? Or bought other items you saw in the store while you were there?

Don't get me wrong I love coupons! Since I am a WMI at Michaels I get their employee discount so I don't pay full price for anything in there, and saving money is great. But I know I have to watch buying something with a 40% off coupon that I might not really need just because I have one.

And while there are weeks I don't use a coupon there are weeks where I may use several of them to get things I need for class or to have at home.

I tell my students if you have a coupon, but there isn't anything else you really have to have, that is a good time to buy plastic decorating bags, merginue powder, flavors, or something else that you might not need that minute, but that you know you WILL use or need at some point. It's also a great way to get the pan sets to give yourself many different basic sized cake pans.

Please note, I'm not trying to talk you or anyone else out of shopping with coupons. I just want to remind everyone (and myself as well) that saving money by buying something you don't really need or something that is just going to collect dust isn't really saving money. icon_biggrin.gif

I do love the coupons. I dont pay full price for much of anything either, unless it is just something small or if I need several things at once!

It's true, at the end coupons make you spend more thumbs_up.gif
Any way, I don't think I'ever bought Wilton's stuff at full price. icon_biggrin.gif May be that's the reason I have so many things.

I love the coupons! They are also in the paper (Michael's at least) but Joann's accepts Michael's coupons, as long as its something Michael's (would) carry. I say would because when I was planning my wedding I needed an aisle runner that Michaels didn't carry (fabric, could paint on it). Personally, I have a friend that works at Michael's that gives me discount.

A hint: Michael's has a book that they use when you "lost" your coupon. You just write your name and city? and they give you your 40% off. Nice to use when you missed Sunday's paper. icon_smile.gif

I only go when I need something specific, and I bring my trusty coupon along. In re-reading my initial post I guess it seemed like I was running off to Joanne's to spend away. But I really need two large cooling rack for sheet cakes because I don't have any and I have two sheet cakes to do this week. Most weeks I don't even go or need the coupon but when I do, it always seems to be there.
On the last day that the coupon is good, if I am there, I've given my extras out in the store to people too....is that bad?
I'm like the coupon Robin Hood....Hobby Lobby must hate me! icon_mad.gif
