I was wondering if can you freeze a decorated cake with buttercream?
and how long can a cake decorated with buttercream be refrigerated? Do you cover the decorated cake in the refrigerator?
Katy
I have frozen a BC frosted cake for a month, but never a fully decorated cake. It tasted fine. That being said, there are those people that freeze the top tier of their wedding cake for their first anniversary. Don't think anyone has ever died from that ![]()
In my fridge, a cake last at most 2 days, but that becuase I have hungry heifers in my house. lol I always cover them when I put them in the fridge, just so any odors that may transfer are limited, if not eliminated.
*edited to change spelling of odors from orders*
I agree with Gina - I always make sure a cake is covered before putting it the in fridge. I do not freeze cakes usually, so I am not a lot of help there, but I did freeze my anniversary tier - completely decorated with fondant and white chocolate seashells and it was delicious a year later.
I did my friends baby shower cake. We had the stand up bear on the cake. She is decorated and in my freezer because we ate the sheet cake, but not that. I have no clue when that will be eaten. It has been in there for a month now. It is decorated with extra special buttercream.
