Help. I have a cake this weekend . The bride just informed me that she wants fresh orchids on the cake. I heard they were toxic. The cake will have a fake top that they are sitting on and the flowers won't be touching the cake. But there is a small spray to be sitting on the side of the bottom tier next to the cake. It will be fondant. Will this be o.k? The bride brought me some beautiful orchids and I have seen them on many cakes on the web. What to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Whenever I put fresh flowers on a cake, I lay down a sheet of plastic wrap for the flowers to sit on. You can work it around so that no one see the plastic.

Just a note of thanks. Delivered the cake this weekend and it all worked out. The orchids really made the cake and was glad I was able to use fresh flowers. If I can ever figure out how to post my pictures, I'll put them on someday.
Thanks again. I love this website!

I don't think orchids are toxic (most anyway). Here is a reference for you http://www.plantsciences.ucdavis.edu/ce/king/PoisPlant/Tox-COM.htm

Thanks KoryAK. That makes me feel even better about the cake. It sure feels nice when all goes well. Lord knows the ones that don't sure can ruin my mood for a long time.
