Gumpaste Spray-How Are They Attached To The Cake?

So I was thinking of trying out some gumpaste calla lilies. If they are on wires and made into a spray, how do you attach them to the cake exactly? Do you just stick some icing or something under the flowers?
That was what I did in my last post called Alexis Baptism. I did Calla Lily sprays and bent the wire so they rested properly and then anchored them with icing. It loked fine, but I would love if there was a better way!
