My daughter's school is having an auction for the teachers to bid with their unused comp time. I would love to donate a cake (with a certificate for a special occasion cake of their choice) - does anyone have experience with auction cakes? What seems to be most popular? I welcome all tips and ideas!!!

I love doing cakes for auctions and fund raising events! I've done several. What I do is what ever or whomever is sponsoring ie school, I go with that theme. I would do a 3D school house or a school book or anything to do with a school. This a a opportunity to go crazy and push your limits. Remember to take a picture to help build your portfolio and have a blast with it. If you look at some of my pictures, a couple of them were for auctions that brought in HUNDREDS of $! HAVE FUN with these opportunities and don't forget to have a stack of calling cards or bus. cards by your cake. Lots of business for you with these events!!!
Aloha!

For auction cakes, I usually make up a board with cake photos on it showing work, then have a "certificate for cake" that is presented to the winner. That way they can decide when they want the cake(must be within 1 year), and there is a set value that it is worth. We also have been starting to offer the value of the certificate or $100.00 off the price of a Wedding Cake valued at $500 or more. We havent gotten that yet though, so dont know how well it would go!
