Gumtex Makes Fondant Hard... But Technically Still Edible?

Hi, I just want to double check that gumtex added to fondant will make it harder and less pleasant to eat, but its still technically edible? I was thinking about adding gumtex to fondant to make my next bow, but know that there's always the possibility of kids coming by eating some loops (or gnawing some loops, as the case may be!) --
Anyway, is it harmless?
Nicholas Lodge uses 50/50 paste to make his bows with. I'm assuming that the Tylose powder he uses in his gumpaste is similar to gumtex. I think he makes the bows with 50/50 because fondant seems to be too soft and with bows you still have a big chance that someone will eat them. Seems to me like it's still considered edible even if it's not exactly pallatable. (sp??) ![]()
What is the difference between gumtex and gumpaste? On my container of gumpaste mix it has nutrition facts, I assumed that this ment that it was edible.
gumtex is in gumpaste...........it's the hardening agent....fondant with gumtex is ABSOLUTELY edible......just as gumpaste is...neither one are particulary great tasting or anything...but kids love it...and in my experience...for some reason, the adults LOVE the thought that they can eat flowers and figures LOL
Great, thanks. I've found the same thing-- people love to say that the decorations are edible, even if they don't taste good :O) -- I made a fondant guy fishing on a cake last weekend and was later told that the kids had the best time eating him, limb by limb! ![]()
lol.......so funny......my avatar is a cake I made for my daughter's second birthday and all the kids wanted some flowers.....but it was the adults that were actually fighting over who got to eat what flowers it was the funniest thing!!!!! the little girls were more interested in keeping them.........but the adults.....all about eating them!!! go figure~~!!!
