Last week I made a present cake. It looked really good and then the day I needed it one of the bow loops cracked and the other loop just fell flat. So then I had to make another bow really fast. I'm making another present cake this weekend. What can I do to keep it from happening again. Should I leave the tissue in the bow loops? Or were my bow loops too thick. I hope I'm making sense and that someone can help me.

I am not expert, but if it was your blue and white cake, my first thought is maybe the bow was too big for your cake. That is just a thought. I think my first bow was too big and my next one (in about 2 weeks) will be smaller. My motto especially with cake decorating is, "Live and learn".
I think your cake looks good though.

Thanks everyone. For my last cake I made it 3 days ahead and used gumtex. It almost seemed too hard. This time I did make a smaller bow and rolled it out thinner. I think maybe it was too heavy. I'm going to finish the cake this afternoon. I'll post a pic when I get done. Hopefully this one will do better.
I've always used the 50/50 combo to make bows and haven't had a problem. But I do make the bows, themselves, even a week ahead of time for drying.
ok ...I'll admit to being a cake lazy
......
....I always make my bows the night before!! ![]()
...have never added gumtex or used gumpaste....i use mmf..and LOTS of cornstarch ![]()

my very first bow I did 3 days before and rolled out way too thick! ...and for my procrastinated bows I do them semi thin....so I would guess the thickness like you said the weight is too much.
good luck with your next one! ![]()
