icon_surprised.gif OK, so I made my first batch of fondant (no idea what I am doing) and I made the MMF. Any tips on this? I have a kitchen aid pro 5, and the thing is covered in Marshmellow and powered sugar. THe fondant is sooo heavy! I don't know what I was thinking, but not that LOL. I don't have a doubble boiler, and so I did a make shift one, with two pans. That part didn't work so well. How does everyone else melt it?

Melt it in the microwave in a glass bowl. Just make sure you Crisco the bowl real good first.

Yes, super-crisco a bowl and melt them in the microwave, but make sure your bowl is big enough!! I put them in a just-the-right-size bowl one time and had a gooey marshmallow mess in the microwave! icon_sad.gif
Also it helps if you grease the KA bowl with crisco too, before you pour the melted marshmallows in. Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

i wouldn''t even use the KA. just grease up a wooden spoon and stir in the same bowl you melted the mm's in. much less clean up than washing out you KA, bowl, and attachment. when you can't mix any more powdered sugar in the bowl by stirring, dump it on the counter and knead the rest in.

You missed the thread about the "clean up Elfs".

They went on vacation a few weeks ago, one of the members got a postcard from them they were in Ireland.

The've been back for a couple of weeks but they are backed up. I'll make sure you are added to their list. I can't say for sure when they will get to you.

I have done mine in a make shift double boiler and in the microwave. The microwave is definitely much faster and easier. Definitely be sure to completely grease every bowl the marshmallows will be in and when they say use a large bowl make sure you use a large bowl. I used a bowl that was just a little larger than the amount of marshmallows that I had in it and I had to watch the microwave the enitre time. Who knew marshmallows expanded like that! One more thing... marshmallows are very flamable so be careful and don't heat them for longer than it says or you may have to redecorate (as Emeril says).

I don't even use my mixer for MMF, I just mix it by hand and them knead it like bread dough, yes there is a lot stuck to the bowl when I am done, will have to try the crisco thing! Thanks

My kitchen looks like a bakery exploded every time I bake a cake. I just can't help make a mess I guess.

Thanks everyone! I don't feel so bad now LOL. I didn't grease the bowl and I think that is where I went wrong! I will for sure do that next time. I did just grease the bowl that I am letting it rest in though.
