Last night, I had a 14 inch layer cooling and I HAD to get to bed. It was mostly cooled and really only needed about another 10-15 minutes to be totally room temp. It didn't feel "warm" to the touch unless you were really looking for a difference in temp.

It was late and I knew my 4 year old would sneak downstairs and stick his fingers in it if I didn't wrap it up. So I wrapped it lightly in saran and went to bed.

No I know not to wrap and freeze a cake... something about the temp and moisture being breeding ground for bacteria. Is it possible I could have ruined this cake by wrapping it before totally cooled? SHould I be worried? Do I rebake it or leave it be? There was no steam condensation inside the wrap this morning, so I am temped to think it should be okay, but I'm such a germ freak, now I'm wondering...

I always wrap my cakes right out of the oven. I let them cool about 10 minutes and then turn out onto saran wrap. Never had a problem, nor have I heard of anything about bacteria. I know that allot of CC'rs use this method.

I wouldn't rebake. The cake is fine.
