Step-Mil In Town. Aaargh!! Just Ranting!!! Sorry It's Long.

Gotta complain to someone!!! So you guys get to hear it!
My step-MIL got in town on Sunday and isn't leaving until Friday. She travels, in her RV, to different dog and trade shows throughout several states selling her wares. When she's near our area she comes for a visit. No problem. The kids enjoy visiting with her. But she really is a royal pain in the you know what!!! We've got a long driveway, so it's no big deal for her to pull that enormous RV up to the house, but she plugs into our outlet so she can have electricity. The outlet she's plugged into keeps tripping.
She can't figure why it keeps happening, as she says "Maybe it's just a time in the day when there's a surge of use." Well, duh, it's the RV that's doing it.
I told her it doesn't happen when she's not here, so obviously the outlet can't handle the RV. I forgot to mention that she travels with 2 cats and a dog. The dog is in the fenced backyard, but the cats are in the RV. I told her she can't bring them in the house this time since I have a wedding cake to do for this weekend. I've got 130 BC roses drying out on the table, and I bet the cats would enjoy them as a snack!
So no pets in the house. Actually, I hate when she does bring them in the house!!! She usually has them on these 20 ft leashes, so she can walk them outside without them getting away. Well, when she brings them in the house, she leaves the leashes on. They get all wrapped up in the table and chair legs, it's quite frustrating
!!!!! Anyway, so she has to leave the AC on in the RV so the cats don't get hot. She can't open the windows because there are too many boxes in the way. What a pain!!!! ![]()
So yesterday, she needed to go into town to run some errands. Not a problem, I had to hit Hobby Lobby and the bank. She's one of those people who likes to sleep in late, so I told her Hobby Lobby didn't open until 9 and we just had to be back by 2:30 since my son was starting Tball that day. Plenty of time!!!!!!
Yeah right, she didn't come in the house until after 11 and then said she still had to make some labels to put on her boxes for UPS. It was 12 before we left. I was a bit peeved at this point
!!!! So, I rush through the bank and Hobby Lobby. UPS doesn't open 'til 3, so we stop by 2 or 3 places looking for a drop-off. No luck. So maybe we'd get lucky at Wal-mart. She's hungry now and insisting on lunch, her treat. Time is short, but I say OK. I've got my 4 yr old with us and when you say restaurant, she's ready!!! So we eat, then she has to get a dessert to share with my daughter. Come on now!!!!
Finally we get to Wal-mart. We have 1 hour to do the shopping, get the groceries back home (20 minutes away) and then get back to my son's school for Tball (he would have freaked out if I wasn't there waiting). So we split up and my daughter goes with her. She needs to fill a prescription, get some toiletries, a new fanny pack and groceries. Of course, she only moves in slow gear. I called DH to see if he knew of any places for UPS drop-off, of course his work has one and he said he'd take them in the next day. Yea, one less thing to do!
I got what I needed, met up with them and gently prodded her into moving a bit faster!!! The customer service had a UPS sign, but the girl didn't know about drop-offs, so I told her that DH could take them tomorrow. NOPE.
She said they had to go out today. So, UPS has to wait. Oh, she was also supposed to get a haircut, but we ran out of time for that to. We get home and I'm rushing to get the groceries in. And Kelly (step-MIL) is taking her time, again
, and giving her dog some medicine and letting my daughter pet one of her cats. GOTTA GO PEOPLE!!!! We finally make it to school, about 15 minutes later than I wanted, but just in time for the kids to be gathering for Tball.
The coach agrees to let my daughter play since she'll be in kindergarten next year. ![]()

(Tball is just for kindergarten through 2nd grade. They don't really play innnings, but they all get a chance to hit the ball and go in the outfield.) So the kids have fun and we start to head home, it's 4:45 now. Then she reminds me that we still have to go to UPS. Yeah, I'm about ready to tell her what I think about her boxes and UPS
. So, we go back into town and drop off those stupid boxes. But wait, she forgot to get cat litter. So back to Wal-Mart we go. I was gonna do lasagna for dinner, ain't gonna happen!!!!! So, I'm trying to think of something I could whip up real fast for dinner.....tacos. Something easy and I have all the ingredients. So I told her what I was going to make and she says, "You mean with the seasoning, I don't like that. I'll cook my own sirloin separate for the tacos." - Well, excuse me!!!!! I know she doesn't like spicy food, but this is just Old El Paso, come on now!!!!!! I made red beans and rice the night before and had to leave out the pepper because she doeasn't like pepper. I don't mind having to compromise, but she's really being a pain here!!!!
We finally get home and it's after 6 now. DH got home before we did, and he knows how she can be - so we walk in and he's already got chicken on the grill. What a sweetie!! Somehow, we get the kids to eat, bathe, read books and in bed for 8.
I'm tired now and ready for her to go back to her RV. I forgot to mention that she doesn't want to sleep in the house
. So, she sleeps, showers, uses the bathroom and eats(except for dinner) in the RV while she visits. Well, she starts talking about my FIL. They've been separated for 3 years now and are finally getting a divorce this year. She starts getting all teary eyed, and well, I don't want to hear it!!! Fortunately my daughter came out and said we were being too loud so she couldn't sleep. That ended that conversation
. We sit down in the living room and she starts to tell me that, on 3 separate occassions, my 7 yr old son has tried to grab her breasts while they were wrestling on the floor. WHAT?!?!
She said she didn't tell him to stop, but wanted me to know in case it's a cause for alarm. I told her that he's never done that to anyone before, but if she's uncomfortable with it to tell him to stop. He's only 7!!!! If he actually intentionally touched her breasts, I told her he could just be curious since he doesn't have any. I've got them and he's NEVER grabbed mine!!! She's just crazy!!!! So as she heads out she asks me what cakes I have to bake. I have 4 dozen CC to do for Friday and a 6", 9" and 12" for the wedding on Saturday. I was at least going to get all the icing made and bake the CC today. She wanted to know because she still needs to go out and get a haircut - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Anyway, I'm sorry this is so long!!! I just had to get it off my chest!!! I don't want to complain too much to DH because there's not a whole lot he can do about it except to take off from work. And I want him to use that time for us! SO, thanks guys for letting me rant!!!!
I just read my post. It really looks like I'm just whining! Sorry about that! There's a lot of negative history with her. So, I guess anything she does gets to me! The thing with my son, well I really took offense to that. He's a good kid. She has accused her brother of sexually abusing her when she was younger, so she's very stand-offish with males. Of course he has denied it all. I don't know......
Hang in there, she be gone soon.
Sorry you have to go through this with her. My MIL is the same way. The rule is, when I'm ready you have to be too. If your not, I'll see you when I get back
. She's always on time now. ![]()
I know hubby really appreciates you being nice to her, but sometimes you have to put your foot down.
Good Luck, only a couple more days left. ![]()
Are you sure that's not my MIL over there bothering you? ![]()

Sure sounds like her.
I don't have any great words of wisdom or advice for you because I just stopped talking to my MIL all together. That is the only way I have my sanity. We took her on vacation with us for a week two years ago & I'm still traumatized!!!
And about that situation with your son grabbing her...I tend to think it either didn't happen or he did it on accident & in her mind she turned it into something else. If your son denies it, then I would just ignore her if she brings it up again. I do have to give you credit though for being able to keep your temper around her. I haven't been able to do that lately so when my MIL comes over I go upstairs or find somewhere else to go.
Take comfort in the fact that her visit is only temporary & you don't have to deal with her every day!
Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I know, just grin and bear it. Only a few more days.

This morning, I just told him not to touch her there when they are playing. I think it was accidental, they were wrestling - as she called it. He just said OK and I'll leave it at that.
She's like a college kid coming home on break. She has several loads of laundry that needs to be washed. She also needs some dishes washed since it's "hard" to do in the RV.
Just a few more days.......
Man oh man - every time I hear a MIL story I thank my lucky stars for the one I have - she is perfect........
What is it with people that come to visit and bring their pets? I had someone come and visit me once with their two dogs - I think they planned on staying with me that night which would have been fine except that they brought their dogs I think they got offended when I told them that I couldn't have dogs in the house.....
Hang in there!
...What is it with people that come to visit and bring their pets? ...
My FIL came to visit with his wife a few years back (his first visit after we moved down here from Minneapolis). He pulled up to the house a day early and yelled at me because he got lost and couldn't get through on the phone to get directions! (we have dial up and I was probably on Cake Central
) I finally told him that if I had known he was coming A DAY EARLY, I might have been more aware of staying off the computer. When he walked in, he had this mangey old mutt with him too! I asked where he got the dog and his wife (who is the coolest) said to him, "YOU DIDN'T TELL HER ABOUT THE DOG!!!" grrrrr... Oh, inlaws....
Deep breaths KittisKakes . I don't think you sound like a whiner. Your MIL sounds like she isn't really visiting, just there to inconvenience. ![]()
kos
Last night she started her laundry. At first she said she would take them to a laundromat because of all the animal hair and she didn't want to be inconsiderate and possibly shake the hair off her clothes and it get all over the BC roses I have on the kitchen island. (The washer and dryer are in a closet space just off the kitchen). You'd think that would be considerate of her to make that offer, but the way she said it was like I was putting her out because of the BC roses. What a twit!! So I obviously moved them. I should have made her go to the laundromat though. The first two loads were the animal beds and a dog mat. EEEEEEWWWWWWW - there was so much hair stuck to the sides of the washer basin. I think she's still planning to wash her clothes today, so I'll wait 'til she's done and hopefully her clothes will pick up most of the hair. What a pain!!!
Are you sure that's not my MIL over there bothering you? Sure sounds like her.
If it is your MIL, you can have her back!!!! LOL!!! ![]()
Hi Kitti,
Today is Thursday...oh yeah
only one more to go.
Get yourself a couple of Coronas and relax ![]()
As for your son, doesn't she realize that children his age are curious and that we as adults, need to handle the situation accordingly. I'm sure that since they were wrestling, he touched her by mistake.
Dah, tell her to get a life and learn how to live with people instead of animals ![]()
OMG!!! LOL! I just wanted to share a tiny story here....last year, my ahem, uncles wife, ahem, lol, had to have gall bladder surgery ( ithink) and she had 3 places on her stomach where they cut her open or whatever they do...anyway, she just pullsher shirt up to show my then 3 year old son....you can see her whole bra!!! Now, please keep in mind, that my first thought was that this woman is atleast 350 lbs....why is she just going around pulling her shirt up..........she did it like 5x that day....ok, sorry that doesn't really matter, just something me & mom still talk about.
Later, my son wanted to see her boo-boos as she had called the bandages....he just went to her & pulled up her shirt. She accused him of feeling her up!!!
A week later, he remembered the bandages & pulled her shirt up again. She acted so surprised, don't know why, but she said....what are you doing? trying to look at my boobs? Did daddy teach you that?
did daddy teach you that?????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, it's not just your family, kittiskakes!!! But, I hope you get through it sane!!
How long does she usually visit?
If it is your MIL, you can have her back!!!! LOL!!!
:
Oh, I wouldn't dream of taking her away from you
Must be her evil twin!!!! ![]()
She usually visits twice a year - when her dog shows bring her out this way. And never stays more than a week. I guess that's another thing that irks me - she doesn't come just for a visit, it's only when she happens to be in the area. But I can't complain, 'cuz it is only twice a year!!! Now my other MIL (the one visiting is DH's step-mom) only lives 1/2 an hour away and don't even get me started on that one!!!
Jaxdesserts - you're lucky to have a great MIL!! DH really despises his mother and puts up with his step-mom. Isn't that sad!! I guess alot of his animosity towards them has rubbed off on me. Although, alot of it is justified!!! I couldn't imagine not having a good relationship with my own mother!!!
Well, I'm baking the wedding cake today. She's supposed to be cleaning up the RV so the kids can go look inside. She's a pack rat and lives with 3 animals - I'm sure ya'll can get an idea of what the inside of the RV looks like!!!
We sit down in the living room and she starts to tell me that, on 3 separate occassions, my 7 yr old son has tried to grab her breasts while they were wrestling on the floor. WHAT?!?!
and what is a grown women of her age doing wrestling w/ a young boy in the first place!?!?!?
that could be considered molestation!!!!!! -- definately NOT appropriate and borders on perverse.
hands off!
Well, I just wanted to thank you guys for lending an ear!! Obviously, I survived! She left on Friday - but we're still dealing with her visit. I'm waiting for the electrician to call. Our main circuit breaker doesn't seem to be pulling in the amps it's supposed to. Just having the coffee maker on makes all the lights flicker in the house. This started on Thursday. I'm not saying she was the main cause for this problem, but there is no question she added to it!!! Needless to say, next year she won't be using our house as a campsite!!!! Waiting to see the prognosis on the electrical situation and how much our electric bill went up before we give her a call to pass on the good news!!!
Just wanted to say thanks, again!!!
Oh, the wedding cake came out OK. Just posted it. Not the best picture, but it will do. It's in my pics if ya'll want to see!!
