Started baking last night, but I think something wasn't right; about to start all over again icon_cry.gif in the next 30 min. Please help!

My recipe calls for 1 stick of butter and 6oz. (3/4 cups) of white chocolate to be microwaved together for 2 min. or until choc is melted. Now I did this and when I mixed it, it seemed to be very thin in cosistency (not like just melting choco. by itself) and very buttery smelling icon_confused.gif . I don't know if this is how it's supposed to come out? The recipe doesn't call for any oil (forgot to mention I'm using a cake mix) I guess because of the butter melted in the choco. A cake mix usually ask for 1/3 cup of oil but the recipe says melt 1 stick (1 cup) of butter. It seems like too much butter to me. I didn't really care for how it smelled. I made this cake before, and I remember the wc melted the way it was supposed to. I don't remember if I used candy melts or Nestle wc morsels; I am using Nestles now.

Help me please! I just came back from the store replacing ingredients I wasted last night icon_mad.gif ? For all you who have made this cake, please share your tips. Should I melt 1/3 cup of butter (instead of oil) like the cake mix says and just melt the wc by itself? I'm not sure about this, don't really have the time or the ingredients to do testing and the recipe got rave reviews from people on the sites where I got the recipe and it got rave reviews when I made it before.

OOOHHH! icon_rolleyes.gif Something else I just remembered about last night. I let the butter soften on the counter first (force of habit, BC you guys know what I mean) icon_wink.gif Could this be the reason it was very thin, the butter was already soft and I let it microwave for 2 min?

I'm waiting on you guys thumbs_up.gif so that I can start baking, I am already behind schedule icon_mad.gif and I had my time management down to work where I could have time in between each step I needed to take icon_razz.gif now that's out the window. icon_sad.gif Please hurry guys I need you!

I don't know this recipe but I would melt them separately.

Are you using unsalted butter? Salted butter tastes too, um, buttery.

Isn't a stick of butter = 1/2 cup? Did you taste what you made last night?

I've substituted a melted stick of butter for the oil in cake mixes before with no problem. One thing, on your post you say the recipe calls for 1 stick/1 cup of butter, but actually a stick is just a 1/2 cup.

I would just microwave it all just until it was melted. Maybe start with one minute, then stir it and check it.

A stick of butter is 1/2 cup. also, I don't think you should melt butter, it makes icing sloppy. JMO icon_razz.gif

When I use Nestle I always seem to have problems. I think I would use Baker's White Chocolate ESPECIALLY if they say melt it WITH butter. Also 1 stick of butter is only 1/2 cup.

I don't know what recipe to which you are referring, but, when I do my White Chocolate Cake, I only use Baker's White Chocolate.

You're all right, 1 stick is 1/2 cup that was an error I made when typing. I can't find Baker's white chocolate anywhere in my area. I spoke to Nestle's and the white morsels isn't even white chocolate.
