I purchased some square cake pans with removable bottoms, (like cheesecake pans?) at an antique store. Has anyone ever baked cake in these? Any tips on how to keep them from leaking batter out? Any other tips about them?

Sweetcakes, I have to admit...and not making fun of your question... when I first read the thread title I thought you were asking about square (Bob) and removable bottoms. OMG! I'm tired....LOL.

Seriously, to your questions. I personally don't use the pans myself but my sister swears by them. She puts parchment paper in the bottom of the pan that slighty goes over the rim. If that doesn't work you might have faulty pans. I would concider taking them back. They shouldn't leak.

Not really a lot of help but maybe someone that actually uses them will know more.

good luck, and I apologize for misreading your question. It's night, night for me.

edited: eeek... I didn't read your question correctly either. If they are antiques that may be the problem. The seal won't hold. I hope someone else can help you.

Heaven have mercy I'm gone.

You can wrap the outside of them in tin foil if they leak with other methods.

When I make cheesecake I put foil on the bottom of the pan to make sure it doesn't leak. That's what I would do with the pans you have.

Growing up, my mom had same type of pans (only they were the round ones)...(YIKES...I might be dating myself!!)...anyhow, my mom never did anything other than grease/flour them. I have them now and have never had a problem with them at all....

Are these like the Magic Line ones? I thought well that's interesting, sort of like a springform, but with no way of sealing! So they don't leak? They were on sale so I might go back and get some! Sorry if this makes no sense, it's late for me too!

i have a 9-inch round Magic Line with removable bottom. it hasn't leaked on me with cake or cheesecake batter. i don't do anything special to prep it. it works great.
