I am doing a cake for a co-workers daughter for her sweet 16th. It will be for 30 people. I'm thinking two-layers one chocolate (daughter requested) and one vanilla/white. I have mmccoog's tie dye cake (http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=favpics&cat=0&pos=-5933) as a "good possibility." As well as smashcakes's sweet 16 cake (http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=favpics&cat=0&pos=-25180).

The theme of the party is a costume party of the different eras. People can come dressed to reflect whatever era they want. Her mom was thinking more of a retro type thing more so than anything else. And says that her daughter like funky, yet is still kind of girly.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Miah

I saw a really cute one that someone posted that was pink and brown (I think) with a poodle on top. It was done in fondant and reminded me of poodle skirts and the 50's!

Depending upon the complexity and price range your working with, maybe you could do mini cakes of a few of the eras or place models from different eras on the cake if you want to go with the rounds? ie.: a pink poodle skirt, an old disco record, a tie-dye shirt, etc.

If it were me, I'd think of symbols to represent the different eras and make them either out of fondant or piped candy melts. Then just press them around sides of cake-- and use as a toppers. Platform shoes, bell bottoms, poodles, sidesaddle shoes, hula hoops, peace signs, funky sunglasses, music notes... have fun! :O)

I'm still very anxious to see your finished product, Miah- when is the completion date? Are you gonna post pics on CC?
