Hi, I am new to cake decorating. I am taking my first class in May and can not wait. Any suggestions on what to buy and not buy to get started?

Thanks

Hi! Welcome! This is a very addicting site! If you are taking the Wilton class you should buy the course 1 kit. You will also need some small stuff, but it all adds up quickly! I know that I had to have EVERYTHING when I first started, so I know how excited you are about taking the class. My hubby bought me the master tip collection because he knew that I wanted to take classes. I was so scared of starting that it took me a year to sign up. Now I'm teaching cake decorating! I can tell you everything that you'll need (or what your instuctor will tell you that you need), but she will "take you shopping" on your first night. icon_lol.gif

If you want to get a head start, here are some things that you may want to buy:
a Trim 'N Turn turntable, Parchment Triangles, Show 'N Serve cake boards (most likely 10" rounds)Meringue Powder, Piping Gel, Clear Vanilla flavoring, a cake leveler, a 13" angled spatula, a flower lifter (you can use scissors for this, but it's about $3), some colors, and some good quality straight sided pans (either Wilton or Magic Line) and some extra tips #1, 12 & 104 (for using in course 1). They do have tool caddys too! icon_eek.gif

See I told you.....just some small stuff and it all adds up! Remember to save and USE as many coupons that you can to get your costs down. I have so many people saving Michaels adds for me!! Most things are personal preferences, so I don't try to "push" my students to buy things that they don't want to.

Good luck and have a lot of fun!!

Cathy

Welcome, but be careful. I spend so much time on this site, I'm not able to spend much time practicing.

Ditto Antylucifer...I spend so much time on here and I learn so many techniques in one day that by the time I get off to practice it's too late and I've forgotten a lot of them because there's too many to remember.

Oh my goodness, I just started here too and I have a serious addiction problem. Today I had to shut the computer down so that I would dare get on. Welcome and I can't wait to see some of your creations...
