Okay, I'm asking for opinions although I know that my paranoia is going to get the best of me anyway.

I just flipped out two 12" layers. Peeled off the parchment only to find, yep- a toothpick. It was covered in cake but right on the surface, as if it had just sunk to the bottom while baking.

I think that when I grabbed something out of the cabinet, (where I keep my toothpicks) a loose one must have fallen right down into my mixing bowl.

What would you do? Its unlikely but possible that more than one toothpick fell--luckily, the cake isn't due til Friday....but grrrrrrrrrrr.... I think I'll have to rebake those two layers out of fear----what a waste!!!!!!!

What would you do???

i think i would rebake. icon_sad.gif i know its such a pain but worth your peace of mind.

BUT... if it was for family, i might say the heck with it and just play a game of "Whoever finds the toothpick in their slice of cake, gets a prize" icon_wink.gif

Ya'll are funny. Cakecrumb... that's EXACTLY what I would do if it was for family. Whoever finds the hidden toothpick wins the prize--and/or a trip to the ER! Unfortunately, its not.

I guess the cake fairy was looking out for me though.... could have easily missed it as I slathered on the frosting. Bad for business, to say the least!!

I guess I'll rebake tomorrow and consider the last two hours a very irritating lesson learned. Lesson being, don't keep your toothpicks in the cabinet above the mixer. icon_rolleyes.gif

Something similar happened to me once. I was rolling tons of fondant and had just gotten it done and went to grab my sewing needle to pop a few air bubbles and it was gone. I was making cookies for school so I had no choice after searching for it but to wad the fondant back up to check and then there it was under my silpat mat. So I got to re-roll the fondant lol but I didn't want to be the lady that puts needles in school childrens cookies ya know. I'm sorry this happened to you but now you can make cake balls, Mmmmm icon_biggrin.gif
