Blake...ok I see...I guess I was thinking "just the bottom tier of a wedding cake" rather than something that would be on display. I was just thinking for unity and ease of working.

But I'm sure you are right, for most purposes, you wouldn't want to use icing. Sorry.

To each his own, Mary Ann. icon_wink.gif

We all have our own favorite ways of doing things that work the best for us. I'm not saying that it's wrong to use anything that's been suggested, I'm just explaining my reasons for choosing to do it the way I do.

In a nutshell, I just hate sticky stuff and avoid it whenever possible thumbs_up.gif

Littlebits: If moydear is giving you advice on anything about dummies or competition, etc. take it as the gift it is! I bow to her. She has a gift. Then Rae, check those cakes, I defer to Rae also........both very talented OSSAS competitors!

While at it, check out Kitagrl's website!!!!It rocks.

You brought out some heavy hitters tonight - lucky you!

(((((((HUGS))))))))))) it will get better.......

I feel your pain!

I bought Pettinice a few years ago to use on a wedding cake. It took me four times as long to cover the cakes as it should have--I was up all night, crying and trying everything I could think of to keep that fondant from ripping and stretching every time I tried to lay it on a cake. (I wasn't a fondant novice, either) I finally managed to cover the cakes adequately, though they still had problems. I found Pettinice to be so difficult to work with--not going to use it again!

Good luck--I hope all works out for you.

Tiptop you are too nice...your cakes are awesome!

My favorite fondant is pretty much FondX. I'm always ordering another bucket of it from the local cake supply place. I guess they aren't used to that brand being a favorite though...one time they were like "Hm, you really like that stuff!"

I think the FondX tastes similar to MMF. You can't overwork it because it gets too soft but for me that is GOOD because I don't like having to exert tons of energy just to get a chunk of fondant pliable.

Thanks, tiptop57--you're very kind. Don't sell yourself short, though!

No OSSAS--yet--that's on the horizon for this coming fall. icon_wink.gif

I just hope that in the end, littlebits is successful getting her fondant to behave thumbs_up.gif

Happy Decorating to all !

OK so I finally finished the cake. It looks better on camera than it does in real life - but of course all I can see are the flaws. icon_smile.gif

The pink fondant was still a nightmare to deal with today - still way too soft, but at least it is on the cake now. Thanks to all of you who offered me advice and hugs!!

This cake will be out of my hair tomorrow! icon_biggrin.gif

I'll try to attach pics. Let me know what you think.

Well it is all because of the great help ya'll offered.

Thanks for the boosts icon_smile.gif

BTW - I watched an episode of ace of cakes last night and on it he said that he only bought white fondant and they colored all of it in the shop. He didn't even know it came in colors! I just laughed. I thought to myself - "I bet he didn't have the trouble I had with all his hot pink icing!" Live and learn

And hopefully you are right and it will be easier next time.

was it the satin ice pre colored that you used?

do you color yours yourself most of the time? I have noticed that you have so many bright and pretty colors of fondant on your work.

Great job, So glad it turned out well. I also only buy white & color it myself. I think I will buy the red tho' as that is too much like hard work to color a lot of fondant red or black.
