icon_smile.gif I have several questions- please bear with me...

1. Do you use a crusting buttercream to frost the Whole cake - I thought you just let the cake crust before you frosted it with the "real" icing?

2. Do you decorate with a crusting buttercream?

3. What is your favorite crusting buttercream recipe? I printed out Odessa's recipe and want to use the Melvira method to make it really smooth-

Thanks for all your help-

1. I take some of my regular BC out of the batch and thin it down some more to med. and than let that sit and ice and decorate my cake.
2. Yes I do.
3. My friends and family love almond BC but you can take the vanilla out and add in any flavor you want!

Hi,
I do use crusting buttercream for everything, to crumbcoat (sometimes I don´t do it), to frost and to decorate the whole cake, even the layer under my fondant is custing buttercream.
My favorite recipe is:

Hope this helps!

I have just started using bc dream and with the help of other suggestions here at cc-add 2 tab meringue powder. I don't do a crumb coat-just cover with bc dream and smooth-I am still working on the smoothing technique-sure it will come in time. I love the flavor of this icing-it tastes like the one they make at a local store here. good luck thumbs_up.gif

waterm - just curious, why do you add the meringue powder? I've just started using bc dream and maybe I should be adding it too.

Thanks

It helps it to crust. The first time I did it without and it kept getting too soft to decorate. Hope this works for you....it did for me... icon_smile.gif
