I am baking a bunch of goodies for our church bake sale this weekend, which is to benefit my children's parochial school. I am going to bake an 8" (two layers 2" each) chocolate cake with bavarian cream filling and probably either cream cheese or bc icing with chocolate decorations. I am not sure what to put on it for a price that's fair to who may purchase it, yet high enough to earn a little $ for the school. Our area (S. Wi) charges lower prices for cakes in the bakeries (ie: $2/serving on wedding cakes), so I need some help? I am also hoping this cake may stir up a little business from parish members! ![]()
if you're using cake mixes....get them at wal mart they're a dollar each...so you can keep your supply cost to around 5 -8 bucks or so...then I would charge like 25-30....it's gonna be better than they would get at the grocery store, enough to bring in some money for the school and so you don't have to foot the bill for supplies and also not sooooo pricey that they might pass it up.....(I tend to notice things at bake sales are cheaper than you might find in a bakery) mostly because I think the people making them are not charging for their time.
You might want to consider doing a couple of 6 inch cakes instead of the 8 inch. At our bake sales, it seems that people are looking for smaller things usually, the large cakes and pies seem to not go as quickly, plus you'd get more people sampling your cakes that way! ![]()
I have no idea about prices - usually at bake sales around here, things are priced fairly low and people don't want to pay a decent price for larger items especially!
Even though you know and we know that it's an awesome, top quality cake, at a bake sale people can't tell that it's not just a "regular" cake that someone threw together at the last minute . . .
Laura.
