I am doing a cake for my husband's boss. He is into monster trucks and nascar but Todd told me he wouldn't like anything like that and wanted a plain jane cake. If this was a woman I would have put some roses and wrote happy bday. But I don't picture Eric with roses. So any ideas??

A cake with chocolate covered strawberries in the places you would normally put roses is a good alternative for a man.

You could put chocolate roses on there. In some of the Wilton yearbooks, there are men's cakes that are entirely done in chocolate, and they look great.

Shoot! I liked the chocolate rose idea and then I remembered he can't have it because of the caffine. These are all good ideas. Thanks so much. I think I am on the right path now.

I agree with the other posts. You could also do some chocolate curls or spikes sticking out vertically from center. I also like either chocolate crumbs, shavings, or "mosaic" chocolate pieces pressed around sides. Good luck! :O)

I found a wonderful idea that I wanted to share. Its so hard to think of manly cakes! I love the chocolate strawberries too. I might add them to this design.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice and ideas!

that's a gorgeous cake!!!! By the way...if he can't have chocolate...why don't you try just coloring the bc brown??? it would still give the nice decorative affect without making it something he wouldn't want to eat??
