In another forum I came across a link to this website and I thought this was such a neat idea.

You can order cake kits, like for big wedding cakes even!!

I offer cupcake kits and cookie kits but never the big cakes!! They provide you with everything that you need BUT the baked cake.

Yikes!!! these kits only contain the deco. What would you be charging after you make the actual cake to recoup what ya paid for the kit. icon_redface.gificon_redface.gificon_redface.gif

I looked at that website and I must not be getting it. I looked at the cake in the bottom left; the one with the grapes. That kit costs $400 and all you are getting is the grapes, instructions and a picture. Seems too pricey for what you get. Am I missing something?

That is pretty neat! I wish I had know about that when we were planning my sister's wedding! The cake I made was delicious, but, with all of the other planning and things that needed to be done, the decoration was simpler than what we would have liked. It's in my Favorites now.

Wow, I have to recover from sticker shock.

The seashell cake is what I charge for the complete cake and this is for the shells only.

Maybe this would work for the do-it-yourself wedding cake.

I think that it's a neat idea but WOW, what a price!!

I think that I would need to frame the picture after I was finished!!

That is a really interesting concept, but the prices seem really high to me.

I think you're paying for them to count how many flowers you need on a cake.

The concept is a good idea if someone started something like that but kept their prices resonable.

I've seen discussion about this website here before too. Not only are her prices high but I don't think she gives a realistic impression of how difficult the cakes could be. A "savvy baker" is NOT the same thing as someone with decorating experience...

But some of the cakes are lovely...

Baking, icing, and stacking are among the hardest parts of making a wedding cake. Just because you have a few columns and royal flowers or whatnot, doesn't mean you can make a great wedding cake!

I just looked at the site quickly. Unless I'm missing something else that comes with the kits - the prices are WAY too high!
