Does anyone know what type of icing can be used with edible images? Will they work with anything? Can they be stuck to fondant or a crusting buttercream? I have never tried them before, but I am making a cake for my godson's first communion. I am making two squares stacked and I am going to put pics of my godson (in diamond shapes) on the sides of one of the squares.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I've used them on buttercream, but I put it on as soon as I frosted it before it crusted. I use a crusting BC. People do use them on fondant to but I don't know if they dampen it first or what. I know you can't get the image too wet or they bleed the colors. I'm sure someone will come by that has done it. But it's fine for Buttercream I do know that much.
Oh and using a roller will help it to lay down too once it's on the cake.
I want to put an image on fondant this afternoon so that it will be dry to stand up on my cake for Sunday. Is there a trick? I've never done it before. Just figured I would put it on the rolled out fondant then cut out the shape and let it dry. Yes? No?
Thanks Debster.
I am still debating how I want to do the pics... but I think I will have an extra sheet printed - just in case I mess up! Would rather spend an extra $8 and not need them. I won't have time to get the pics reprinted again if I do mess up!
gladds... sorry, but I have never used the images before. Did you try it yesterday?
I made one last week w/ an edible image. I frosted with crusting buttercream, after I smoothed with Viva, I sprayed a very light spray of water out of a water bottle, then took a paper towel & laid it on top of where I just sprayed to soak up most of the water, then put the image on top. It worked great! ![]()
If your buttercream crusts before you get the image applied or you are wanting to put it on fondant. Just get a little spray bottle that has a fine mist and mist the area lightly that you want to apply the image too. The misting won't be enough water to make the image run but is enough to make it stick. Also another little trick is if the image somehow has gotten dried out and brittle. Lightly mist it and let is sit for a couple minutes so the water can absorb into the paper then apply as usual.

Thank you all for the advice - I can't wait to try these!
I found a bunch of pics of my godson thru out the years... most with his brother... some with the whole family. They are small enough that I could probably fit them all onto two or three image sheets and then I can cut them out individually. I was going to only put the pics on one cake, but I will see how they come out - I may put them on both.
I wonder if I am the only person who changes my mind about a cake 100 times as I am working on it??? ![]()
