Okay, I need CC'ers with answers!! icon_cry.gif I'm making a bible cake for my cousin for her son's 1st com. She's told me she wants gold and white and buttercream frosting. My thing is she wants the edges to be gold to look like pages. Fine. How am I going to get the edges to gold and the top white without mixing up the two. Do I color the buttercream for the edges gold or do I let it crust in white and then go over and lightly brush on gold color? This is really upsetting me by not knowing how to do this. Please any help is appreciated. I know I can count on you guys icon_wink.gif

Gold luster dust for the edges would be perfect. Just mix with some vodka and brush on icon_smile.gif Good luck it sounds beautiful!

I am interested in the positioning of the cake? Is the book laying down or standing up? Are you going to use fondant to make the book cover? Though I am just a newbie, I would suggest that you let the buttercream frosting set and then lightly brush the gold dust on the section for the pages. Also, you could use a very fine-toothed comb to create the illusion of pages in the buttercream.

MARIATAMIA - don't panic......use luster dust as Dustbunny says but frost the sides first and then paint on the gold...then add the white fosting to the top. icon_wink.gif

Oh, Wow I just did two bible cakes this month. Yes, make the cake with white buttercream let it crust. Then you can paint your edges to look gold. I used the gold dust and vodka. Do you have the triangle edged comb thing to get the page look? It makes the painting so much easier.

Great suggestions thank you so much. I do have the comb to make the page edges. My question is how much vodka do I use with the luster dust? Won't this soften the buttercream. I won't be using any fondant I going to make the cover of the book out of gumpaste but only making edges around the bottom to look like the cover.
