Braiding Mmf

I did my first all MMF cake yesterday. Last minute I decided to do braiding around the bottom of the cake because my ribbon just didn't look right. I like the look of the braiding but I was having lots of trouble with it pulling and breaking no matter how careful I was being. Anyone have any ideas on a way to do this without all the headache? The cake is the baby shower cake in my pictures. As you can see the top braiding and the bottom braiding don't look a thing alike. Help?

I had the same problem. I added a bit a Crisco, which seemed to help. I don't know what else could be used. Glycerine, maybe?

The only thing I can think to tell you is to microwave the MMF for a couple of seconds to soften it back up. And to grease it up like the above posts said.

microwave it a bit to get the elastic feel back in it, just be careful it doesn't take long at all thumbs_up.gif

I am sorry I must not have been very clear in my explanation. My problem was the fondant was toooooo soft and even after waiting a while for it to cool and harden a little bit it was still to soft to braid it just kept stretching and breaking. The fondant was fine for everything else on the cake though. maybe it was just operator error icon_wink.gif

Is it sticky? The fondant should be firm enough that it isn't sticky anymore. Maybe adding more sugar would help? Maybe you are inadvertantly pulling too much. Next time you're working make sure to pay close attention to how you're handling the ropes.
