Hello all.
I am soo happy to announce that I did my first paid cake. I was extremely nervous because up until now I have only been doing cakes for my family. However, one of my husband's co-workers saw my frog cake and asked if I could do her daughter's Barbie cake. I said sure! And once I hung up the phone I felt sick, I was so nervous and thought to myself what did you get yourself into???
I called around (because I had NO IDEA how much to charge) and got prices for a Barbie cake and the general price was $40. So I charged her the $40 plus I threw in 24 decorated cupcakes (pink and purple BC plus colored sugar).
Can you guys tell me if I charged to much or too little? All comments and critiques welcomed. I know I have a lot to learn and I am learning from the best of the best here. ![]()
Thanks in advance.

I am having trouble downloading the picture here but it is posted in my pictures.
Hi there!
IS it the barbie cake that you have on your photos? The one with the fondant? YOu did a great job by the way.
If that is the one, you should have charged a little more for the fact that you used fondant alone. I made a barbie with 12 cupcakes, it sat on a 9"round, I charged $45.00. You need to add a little extra for fondant work in my opinion.
Keep up the good work. Look out now, it is all going to start. MOre paid orders, Hooray!!!
All the best,
dawn
You did a wonderful job on the barbie cake! You should be very proud!!
Your cake looks awesome and congrats on your first paid cake. I think she got one heck of a deal on it and plus you threw in the cupcakes!!!!
MY husband would have been telling me, "why don't we just write her out a check too to go along with that cake."........He is always saying that I do not charge enough.
It's hard to charge at first but you will get the hang of it especially when you really start adding up all the time and hard work you put into it.
Congrats!
