Hi everyone... This is extrememly short notice but this weekend is my nieces christening and I am making the christening dress cake for her. However, It is also my grandfathers 78th birthday and he will be attending the christening(very small only about 20 people type of thing) However, I wanted to make a small cake (6-8 inch round) for him. Problem is I have NO ideas. He has been sick for quite awhile with Parkinsons and always worked to support his family. So we can't come up with any interests he may have. The only thing we have come up with is that on that side we have a large Irish family. Any ideas????
I haven't thought of any cake ideas, but in my searches, Irish Nut cakes seem to be pretty popular:

Here is an Irish Folklore page filled with Irish sayings, toasts and proverbs, there are some pretty good lines in there and he may be happy that you took the time to do some research:

"May you live to be 100 years, with one extra year to repent."
"May the good Lord take a liking to you...
But not too soon!"
"May you be in heaven a full half hour
before the devil knows your dead."
"Wherever you go and whatever you do,
May the luck of the Irish be there with you"
"If youre enough lucky to be Irish...
Youre lucky enough!"
Good Luck, hope you find something you like
