I need to make a 1st birthday cake for a girl and the mom would like it to be decorated in gingham plaid. Any ideas????? icon_confused.gif

airbursh through a stencil?

lots and lots of stamping fondant by hand?

Depends on how gingham the Mom is talking about. You could use a gingham ribbon to put around the side of the cake and use decorations to go with the ribbon.

You could try and hand paint it on with a thin brush, however it could take forever. I would definatly ask the mom if she wants gingham on the cake or maybe just the ribbon.

You could do a plaid basket weave.

Some sort of edible image with gingham in it? Or maybe a scan of gingham turned into an edible image and repeated for a border....

You could tile the sides of the cake with fondant in a gingham pattern, should be fairly quick work!

I have done several cakes and piped the gingham with a star tip, they turn out very pretty...but it is also quite time consuming and the repetition really hurts your hands by the time you're done!

what about making yourself a stencil out of paper or even a stencil sheet, then it would be reuseable...and then color in the correct areas with some of those petal dusts on a paint brush!
