I am making this cake for Sunday. I can't really tell what sizes the pans are. Would it look good as a 7, 5, 3??? My customer does not need a lot of cake, but likes the idea of three layers. I plan to do all buttercream with fondant belts and a rhinestone number 18 on the top. I have no idea how much to charge. The layers are going to be almond sour cream.

Please help. I value all of your opinions immensely and I am so new at "selling" my cakes.

Thanks so much

I think those sizes would look great. (WOW I"M IN LOVE WITH THIS CAKE!!!)
I would charge $75-$85 even though it really isn't a lot of cake. Hope it helps, and if you don't think that's enough, go higher. I have shorted myself more than once.

I'm sorry, I misread. All buttercream with fondant belts, then I would charge $55-65....oops....I'm feeling brain fried today!

Jodi,

I would be more inclined to do a 3"-6"-9", but I believe your sizes of 3"-5"-7" will work, too. Be careful not to make the top 2 tiers too tall or they'll look a little "skyscraper-ish", I think.

As for what to charge, I think that depends on you. Some people swear by the materials cost x 3 method, but I would suggest you use your own sensibilities. If you didn't make cakes like this, what would you be willing to pay? Let that be your guide ... and when all else fails, call a friend who has the same approximate income level as your Client and ask her what she'd pay for it. That can also help. (It's hard to estimate as you are in Canada, which is a little different than US costs/prices).

Hope this helps,

Odessa

p.s. post a photo when you're finished; I'd love to see it when you're done!
