I've had a request to make a cake shaped like a ceiling fan for a babies 1st birthday (it's his favorite thing in the world). Has anyone done something like this? I can picture cutting out the blades kind of, but I'm not sure you would know it's a ceiling fan. Thanks for any help you guys have!

You might consider using a ball pan as the light fixture in the center, and then make the blades from cut out sheet cakes.

Of course, this would be the view from the bottom, but I guess that's what a baby's perspective would be!

here's an idea:

staked round make the motor

in center strong dowel

then fan supported on wood block that surronds dowel
(i envisioned it being like the tinker toy hub shown.)
small dowels extending from hub support blades
for extra security, make blades from cardboard and cover with fondant (see on piece pattern..stronger than multi-pieces)
twist blades

if want light too, extend dowel higher and attach cake plate (i'd probably use one of thes hollow colloum supports made for wedding cakes)

and then use sports ball pan or two-miniballs to make light globe.

Thanks for the ideas! These are awesome. Seeing it with tinker toys really helps me visualize it.
