Well, I need some good ideas to flow here....I live right across the river from Louisville, KY, and have 3 different derby cakes to do for Derby Day ( This is a huge party day in our area!) On one cake I'm doing a race track made out brown sugar with horses running around a horseshoe of roses. Now, I need two more ideas since they all need to be different.....thanks for any help.... icon_smile.gif

I know absolutely nothing about horse racing, ... I know they make a horseshoe shaped pan....maybe you could do something creative with that.....when do you need to have them done by? Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I'm sure with all the creative people that visit here you'll have tons of ideas within the next day or two.

There was someone else one here I think last week looking for ideas. I like the one about the horses on the track. I suggested last week that maybe doing the horse shoe shaped cake covered in red roses to look like the blanket of roses they drape the winner in. Also what about something related to mint juleps or even the big fancy hats that everyone wears to dress up for the race.
Cindycakes2 I was in your neck of the woods last year visiting family. Don't they have a museum there along the falls that has a dinosaur exhibit? My 4 yr-old was in HEAVEN!! It took us forever to get out of there because he loved looking at all the dinosaurs icon_smile.gif

I love your idea! It will be so pretty too. When I think of the Kentucky Derby I think of trophy, jockey on horses, mint juleps and big hats.
I googled these pics and thought they might look nice as a cake or on a cake.

I can usually get inspired when I look at all the images on google so I thought it might help come up with some ideas.

Hey, thanks for the ideas....I am doing the google sites tomorrow after I finish setting up a wedding cake at 3:30. Been baking and decorating since yesterday...working on the grooms cake now. Montana....yes, the
Falls of the Ohio State Park has an interprative center with the fossil and dinosaurs. I live about 10 minutes northeast of that....so you were definitely in my area! If you ever get back, there is a great Natural Science Museum just across the river, as well as the Louisville Bat Factory and Museum , and you can take free tours there to see how the Louisville Slugger is made. Kids and adults alike love it! Thanks fellow cake decorators!
