Does anyone know a good tutorial or website on how to do faces and arms for fondant figures? Has anyone attempted molding figures out of MMF?

Thanks, Y'all!!

I've seen cakes with MMF figures. They turned out really nice. www.pastrywiz.com has some good tutorials on making figures from fondant.

There's this one...

And this one...

You're welcome. There are also molds you can use to make people. I think that's what I'll use if/when I plan to try and make fondant people.

Try theese links for polymer clay instructions... Just do not bake when it says to! LOL. I have been making clay figures and animals for years now and I am starting to play with fondant ones. They are very similar in texture except for the baking part and as the fondant warms it starts to stick to the fingers so I keep a small bowl of 10x by to keep it from sticking. Enjoy!

That's a great website to pass along gotcake, thanks. I've used molds once and I had to improvise a little to get more of a 3-d effect because my figure was on top of my cake standing up. They were very useful. This site looks like it has some great ideas to expand upon.

Alot of people liked it. some of the cute ones are http://www.sculpey.com/Projects/projects_BabyBlocks.htm

Just make differant clothes for the santa baby or cover in a blanket and it's great for a baby cake or to put with a baby block cake.
Once you learn the basics you can just search polymer clay websites and look at cute figures, animals and things and you will be able to figure out how to do them.

These are the 3D molds I want to get. Right now sugarcraft is out of stock but I think it would make figures that would be good to put on top of cakes.

They even sell clothes molds and patterns for them.

It would be so much fun to play with this stuff...just like when you were a kid icon_smile.gif

Now that's a pain! Sugarcraft is unavailable now, they have used up their bandwidth...same thing happened last month! Seems to me if they are seriously in the business of selling on the internet they need to be sure they are available all the time!

Thanks for the tips, Lisa. Janice

I have the people molds from sugarcraft. I used them to make the candy clay gymnast that I put around my gymnast cake. They were hard to get out of the mold with the candy clay. I haven't tried fondant or gumpaste yet. When I have time, I will try and let you know.

One thing that seems to help get things out of molds, whether it be soap, fondant etc, is to put the mold in the freezer for no more than 5 minutes or so and then they seem to pop out much easier.
