I have been baking for family and friends for less than 2 months. Everyone says my cakes are so good but you know when people know you you don't know for sure if they are just being nice. Well I made a cake for my mom last week and I talked to her 2 days ago on the phone and she just went on and on about how good my cake was, this women couldn't give me a fake compliment if her life depended on it. She said that most mornings she just has toast for breakfast and she was embarrassed to say she had cake every morning until it was gone. She said she eat the whole cake all by her self (it was a 9in 2 layer with the rolled cookies (I forget the name of them) all the way around it and chocolate dipped strawberries. So I got to thinking my cakes just might be good after all. LOL.
The other day my husband had me to a cake for the bank, he knows them up there really well and does a lot of business with them. Well they called him right after eating some of it and went on and on about how good it was. Than yesterday the lady at the bank calls back to say that she had a new customer opening a new account and she offered the couple a piece of cake and said it was really good. As they were leaving the women when over and looked at the cake, looked all around it and open the lid of the box and looked in side, someone came over and asked her if they could help her. She just said she wanted to know what bakery the cake came from, it was the best cake she ever had and she thought it much have come from **bakery, "They have the best cakes around". So the bank lady said "No, that a business customer's wife had made it and she's thinking of opening a bakery". The lady told her "She better, that is was wonderful".

Funny thing is I did the chocolate cake on the back of the Hershey's coco can for the cake to the bank and my mom's was just the white cake here on CC.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I decorate cakes for my friends and family and I'm always asking their honest opinion and of course they say they are great. I questioned myself when I made a birthday cake for my mother with chocolate buttercream and she said it was good. I personally don't care for the taste of choc. buttercream so I'm thinking she probably didn't like it much either and just doesn't want to hurt my feelings. I have since discovered chocolate syrup frosting and I love it. I made a cake for a little boy that I babysit and i told his mother to be honest with me on the taste of it because I was trying a new recipe from scratch and needed to know if I should ever use it again or not. Thankfully, she was honest and told me it was a bit dry so i immediately threw the recipe card in the garbage and I won't make it again. I got the recipe from here but can't remember what it was. Something like "Best Chocolate Cake". Anyway, it's nice to hear the negative and the positive.
