My son's class is throwing a Hawaiian themed party before the start of CATS testing and I'm at a loss of what kind of cupcakes to make with that theme....Do you guys have some ideas for me?? Nothing too hard because I'm not that great of a decorator. icon_lol.gif

Thanks so much!! ~Denise

The only ideas I have are to put some hibiscus flowers and surfboards on them. I was thinking you could do chocolate transfers from a picture of a surfboard unless you could find a candy mold and stick those in the tops.

How about some pineapples, leis, seashell neclaces, beach w/seashells, sand, or sunset/rise, bright fish, beach toys, flowers, orchids, hibiscus (state flower),coconuts, clear blue water a fish, tiki lights, hula skirts, bathing suits, birds-parrot, giant leaves, palm trees, dragon fly, sharks tooth, volcano w/lava. For the teacher-a Pina colada or tropical drink.

This site has tons of Hawaiian information, including name translation-if you have time you could get a class list and write the Hawaiian name of each student and add a simple flower, fish, bird or something like that.

Google and Yahoo images have pictures of just about everything-you could get ideas from doing searches in either place.

OK, this may not be as good as the ideas above but here is another suggestion. I made some cute Hawaiian T-shirt cakes that I posted on the site not to long ago. I used the T-shirt pan but you could do the same thing with cupcakes by making a pull-a-part cupcake cake. ??? I have done just one cupcake cake and I couldn't believe how easy it was. There are many directions posted in the forum. Good luck with whatever you come up with!

I attached the pic of the shirts - I hope it worked!

If you have some beach type cookie cutters (surf board, flip flops, palm tree) use them to cut out cake from a sheet cake, then decorate.

i was going to suggest a lot of different things, but then noticed the suggestion to keep it simple- and someone else said seashells. so...

ice the cupcakes (as sloppily as you want) then dip them in crushed nilla wafers or grahm crackers so it looks like a mini beach. buy a chocolate mold for $2 at michaels, hobbby lobby or joanns that has seashell shapes. use candy melts, (melt at a low temp so the choco doesnt turn white when dry) and swirl dark and white together if you want. if you have luster dust (super pearl, gold - whatever) use a little to dry dust and place one shell on each cupcake. viola! so cute! AND so easy!

i love the idea of the choc transfer surfboards, i do think that the molds would be so much faster than the transfers though.

I like the umbrella idea myself also...maybe do a icecream effect with a sour ball on top and a little umbrella (weird I know but they look cute)
