Glycerin ?

Is all glycerin the same? I bought mine at the dug store but am nervous to try it in case it is not edible.

I am curious to know too. I had the pharmacy order some for me. I assume that if it is pharmaceutical grade, it would be safe to ingest. I wanted to use it to refresh some gel/paste colorant that started to dry.

You'll want to be sure you're purchasing food grade glycerin and I'm not sure if the kind you buy at the pharmacy is food grade.

I got mine at Michaels..it looks almost like light Corn Syrup. Did it come with a "Warning Label" ? ask the Pharmacist..I'm assuming that should be the same one. there's really no other kind. icon_smile.gif

Our pharmacist said it was edible in small amounts but she said people don't usually eat it. Maybe I should get the stuff at Michaels to be sure. I wanted to try making normal fondant instead of the MMF

There is food grade and non-food grade glycerin. I would buy the glycerin where it is specifically marketed for use in food like at www.sugarcraft.com or where it's stated that the glycerin is food grade/edible. Even at Michaels, the glycerin may not be food grade since glycerin has many other uses.

Hmmmm glad I asked this as I had no idea there were two grades. Well my pharmacist already think I'm nuts for asking them to bring in Tragan whatever it is....sorry can't remember the actual name and have never been able to pronounce it either LOL.....but it is upstairs and when I get a chance I will search out a recipe to try it with. I'll be sure to check for edible grade glycerine now. ((thanks)) icon_smile.gif
