Vinyl top is really good(also having your corn
starch when rolling prevents the sticking).
Marble, you stick. Formica is good too.

I use a piece of vinyl as well. It really wors the best. Sometimes I will work on my counter top if I need a relly large size. Just put a fair amount of cornstarch down and start rolling. Don't flip the piece over, just pick up and turn while you roll to make sure that the fondant doesn't stick. This seems to work the best for me. I used to fiip the fondant over, but have learned by some really great decorators at competitions that you shouldn't flip because you then will get the cornstarch on the finished side. Not desirable. Go to you r walmart store in the fabrid section and they can cut the vinly for you to whatever size you like.

Gook luck

hmmmmmmmmmmm..... I never use cornstarch or powdered sugar with the vinyl and it's never stuck (I use Satin Ice). The fondant clings to the vinyl so it doesn't slide off when you lift it and place it over thec cake. Have you guys ever not used the cornstarch or powdered sugar?

I use a silicone pad. It works great! They can be pricey though. But well worth it if you do a lot of baking. I use it for rolling out pie crusts, fondant, kneading bread dough. Pretty much anything that is usually sticky does not stick to it eliminating the need for use of flour or cornstarch or powdered sugar.

Cornstarch is what you use. If you start to
see some crack in the fondant or getting dry,
you just add a little shortning.

icon_smile.gif with me, I first heat it up slightly just to soften it, and add a smear of Crisco, then I knead it really well.. I used Plexiglass (thick plastic), then I dust the Plexiglass w/ Cornstarch ( lightly)..I use Marble rolling pin since it is very heavy, that way I don't put so much pressure w/ rolling it out. icon_smile.gif
