Sorry to have so many posts, but I'm doing my first wedding cake and keep running into problems icon_cry.gif The design is white on white and I noticed as I was crumb coating that the IMBC has a yellow hue, plus I'm having a hard time getting it perfectly smooth. I've had success with the roller method on rounds and cupcake - cakes. Do you think it will work for squares?

Hello,

To correct the yellowish hue try adding just a little bit of violet coloring. Sounds crazy, but it will whiten it (but don't add too much or you will get violet, of course!).

As far as the Melvira method on square cakes, it works great, but I think you need a crusting icing. I've never used IMBC but I'm thinking it doesn't crust (or does it?). Maybe someone else will know better than me on that. Good luck!

Thanks Julie! I guess I'm off to the store again!! The IMBC doesn't crust but I've only crumbcoated with it so far on this cake. I'm going to put the crusting over it and use the roller. Do you think this will work, the cakes are frozen?

I agree with Julie ~ the Melvira Method works great on square cakes when using a crusting icing.

I'm sure you'll be fine putting a crusting BC over the IMBC crumb coat.

I use the Melvira Method for lots of things even areas on my cakes that I am decorating and want smooth. It should work great on square cakes!

I tried this finally the other day and all i have to say is Melvira is my hero! It works amazingly... I was skeptical at 1st but am now a believer! It works on a round, so I would see it working a square!

I got the top two tiers coated with the crusting and it worked very well. It looks so much better than the first coat. The desing on this cake is pretty simple so I really needed the base to be smooth. Thanks to all of you for your much needed advice. I've made a timeline for the last few days and am plugging along!
