Hell everyone I posted this question previosly I'm new to this site so I guess that sort of explains why I cant find my post. Any who I was wondering which size cake pan is suggested to use when sculpting a purse cake and any other suggestions welcome when I figure out how to upload photos I will upload my cakes so far thanks to all that reply.
welcome to cake central, you're gonna find so much great info on this site. I have only done a bag type purse using a sheetcake cut into rectangles & stacked , but i would think an 8 or 10" cake cut in half would work great. I guess it depends on how much cake you need or how big you want it. you could also use dowels or skewers like i did & run them through the cake into the cake board for added stability.
I made mine from a loaf pan and cover it with fondant. You can see it in my picture's.
Shaddy,
thankyou for posting that link. It is good to see step by step pics.
I have also been searching for an easy way to make a handbag cake but hopefully without much carving as I don't like to waste cake ![]()
use a bookpan, bake the cake mix in it, then fold it over along the middle in half and it will look like a purse when you are done. I used the rolled fondant to make the handle and the gentleman I made it for said it looked just like the picture.
Hope this helps.
Oh my gosh nylorac,
What a great idea, you're right it would bulge a little down the bottom like a purse and be thinner at the top!
and I even have the large wilton book pan! I will try this one as I reeeallly suck at carving! ![]()
Many thanks!
